2009 Legislative Survey

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for again giving me the opportunity to represent you in the Minnesota Legislature. I will continue to work hard on your behalf as we address the issues that matter most to Minnesotans.

The nationwide economic downturn has resulted in a $4.8 billion budget deficit, possibly more.  Minnesota ’s constitution requires lawmakers to balance the budget before the end of this session.   All programs and services will need to be reviewed.  Clearly there will need to be significant spending cuts in many areas.  This budget will clearly define what Minnesota ’s priorities are. Every citizen will be impacted in some way.

To assist me in knowing your priorities and how to represent you, please complete the survey below.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime with your thoughts and concerns. I look forward to working with you.

10 Currently low- and middle-income earners pay a larger percentage of their income for state and local taxes than    Minnesota ’s highest earners.  A proposal being discussed would create a new tax bracket for the state’s highest earners (couples earning $400,000+ per year and individuals earning $226,000+ per year).   Revenue from this   new tax bracket would be used to provide substantial, permanent property tax relief for 99 percent of Minnesota homeowners.
